Jean Guichard
Born in Paris, 1952, Jean Guichard was motivated by travelling and photography from a young age. During his military service with the French Navy in 1971, Jean was introduced to the sheer power and ferociousness of the great north seas. While travelling through Greenland, he bought his first Nikon camera, paid for by selling his photos to fellow crew members. In 1977, Jean joined the Sygma agency as a photojournalist. After 12 years in this industry, he decided to create the GLMR agency with some colleagues and Jean's thorough work on lighthouses began. He became very interested in the forgotten lighthouse keepers who risk their lives to guide ships through treacherous waters by the coast. Jean's series perfectly captures the force of the high seas and the fortitude of both lighthouse and keeper.
