Mike Edwards
An established artist based in Brighton, Mike Edwards is one of the pioneers of Contemporary Typographic Art. Graduating from Birmingham Institute of Art & Design in 1989 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, Mike started out working as an artisan artist and later went on to produce his own unique portfolio. He is famous for creating celebrity portraits made up of text. Rendering each letter in a separate colour, he plays with the type so that when viewed from a distance the letters merge to form an image that almost looks like a photograph. Mike describes his work as an exploration of the collision between the written word and the visual image.Amongst his many achievements, he has created a stage set for rock band Blur, worked on commissions for the likes of Bacardi and Urban Outfitters, and has work in collections around the world including those of Queen drummer, Roger Taylor and the late publisher, Felix Dennis. Mike continues to push the boundaries in his studio, effectively creating a new language with his cutting-edge imagery
