Paul Donaghy
Born in Northern Ireland in 1964, Paul studied at the University of Ulster, Belfast. In 2004 he left behind a successful career in Graphic Design to dedicate his time to painting. The work of Nicolas de Staël, The Scottish Colourists, Cézanne, Yeats and Matisse all influence Paul's work. Working mostly with a palette knife, his paintings are characterised by vigorous slashes of colour with highlights of heavy impasto on areas where the pigment is otherwise barely staining the canvas. Paul’s roots as a designer are still very visible in the strong shapes, lines and bold colour that embody his floral still lifes. He hopes to share the moments that are necessary to everyone to reflect, to meditate and to think intensely.
